I'm going with the "Dani, Mallory, Erin" hypothesis. As the other three primary residents of the Infirmary it makes sense for them to be together. I think the highlights on the brunette are from the red light.
The shells are a mystery, though.

I agree on it being Dani, Mallory, and Erin. My take on the shells is: the painting: "The Birth of Venus" By Botticelli and then I realized. yup the scallops on the school crest. If ever there were goddesses, these would be three.

There seems to be more platinum in Dani's hair on this cover. I apologize about the confusion over Mallory, I'd never seen her in an environment that made it look like she had wizard red in her hair. Cover #4 is still my favorite by a lot, but this is an interesting one.

So, just as we begin to understand the importance of the shells, they are retired. And someone decided to do a Charlie's Angels homage (but with a Drew Barrymore slice). Didn't all the Angels before "Alex" have guns? Shouldn't Erin have an athame or glowing hands or something?

Isn't a "homage" exactly that? And not necessarily an exact reproduction of the original? And the "someone" was me...because I thought it would be cool and a good idea?!

This medium is a lousy communicator of tone. The homage was a cool idea well-executed. The Drew Barrymore slice threw me because there's an element of cartoony ridiculousness to the McG films that I find annoying. Also, you matched Dani and Mallory to their weapons of expertise. Erin can use knives or magic. What about a glowing pentacle at her throat or a dagger in one of her hands as she poses?

I like it! Better this than a parody of Disney Princesses or the Rescue Rangers.
