So much for Claudia being a Kupler heir.  That last exchange could be really troubling.  Unless he's referring to a conversation he recently had with Dani, Adrian's recognition of the name throws our entire understanding of his character into question.  Absent the Dani connection, the only thing that might save it is if Claudia is a friend and ally of his ex-girlfriend...and even that's shaky.

Beautiful art, of course.

ETA--Another ominous thought.  What do the C&J in C&J Aviation stand for?  Is the C Coulbeck? Huh

The mystery deepens!  We have ... a new last name, another connection between Adrian and the nefarious goings-on in Kearsarge (following the surprising reveal that Adrian's father, and possibly mother, were at Wilmot in the 80s).  It also potentially alters the importance of the conversation between Derek and Claudia about 20 issues ago.  Derek reported about Adrian by name, and so if Adrian knows who Claudia is, it's reasonable to suppose that Claudia knows who Adrian is.

The principal mystery in SJI now is:  who is Adrian, really?  (And how does he have such superhuman sexual endurance?  Is that just who he is, or is that something that resulted from some event or action in-story?)  My current unsubstantiated theory, based only on this episode and special issues 7,8 and 9, is that his parents were unknowing subjects of an elaborate experiment in human psychology, physiology and sexual behaviour, and that Adrian has the genetic inheritance of that experimentation.

I eagerly await further developments in the mystery.

And all this is in the context of total hotness.  Great stuff.

That conversation actually is much more confusing than it looks.  It would seem that Derek reported everything to Claudia *slaps forehead* and she punished him for lack of focus and general incompetence...so, his original narrative should have included Adrian's full name or a description of him.  If Adrian knows Claudia in any other way than as a former harem-mate of Dani's (which, one would think, means an important conversation walking back from the woods earlier "this" evening), the description and/or name should have resonated with Claudia and she should have asked more questions.  The fact that she appears not to have done that would seem to suggest that the way that Adrian knows the name is from a conversation with Dani.

My theory on Adrian's endurance is much simpler: this is a sex fantasy and some things get handwaved due to the genre.  There's also a noted lack of concern over pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.  Not everything is a Chekhov's Gun.

That said, the potential connection between Adrian and Claudia does open a can of worms.  Prior to this it was reasonable to treat Adrian as an Everyman.  His backstory wasn't relevant to events in Kearsage; he might as well have been created ex nihilo at the town border.  That is no longer the case.  The roots of the story run deeper than was originally apparent.

We can't forget Rain's conversation, and our lack of details there. It's possible she's the friend he's referring to.

It's also possible that the relationship trouble Adrian fled from was tangentially connected with Claudia, but not directly. Meaning that he might have heard of Claudia, but not the other way around.

raven, you're right that I had forgotten about Rain.  More to find out.

mns_05125, you're probably right about the handwaving, but it just struck me as being too much.

Even with that, though, we're left with a few mysteries here about Adrian, his connections to Wilmot and Kearsarge, and how much information he has.

I always thought Rain's hook into this was Marliese, but then again, we don't know much about her and we certainly don't know what she knows.  She could see Claudia as part of the coming storm, but I don't think Adrian would classify Claudia as "a friend of a friend" if she were merely part of Rain's warning.

I still see Adrian as caring, beneficient, loving, and a potential champion, but the excuse for that gift certificate is...thin.

As for his stamina, prowess, and recovery period, I sort of split the difference on the two options.  This is a fantasy, and I did bring up the possibility of long-term effects of the tower on Patrick, Tamar, and their offspring in other threads.  I think it's a bit of both.

If I might make a suggestion, when Zenon is eventually smoked out and asked to move on, could we have the good Dr. Laurel from Waiting Room (or someone like her) come in as his replacement? Huh Wink Grin Grin

I've a feeling Rain knows everything.

I'm officially waiting for the comic built around the song lyric "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain / telling me just what a fool I've been..."

mns--You're a Dell Shannon fan?  Excellent.

I don't see Adrian as being especially more vulnerable to whatever the tower is--I thought he might have an immunity to it, so that if it does encourage coupling, he'd be the observer, something akin to the Lucky Everyman again.

I strongly believe Adrian is a good guy, and although he's evasive, I don't think he's lying about why he came here in the first place. You'll note that he said no to Erin. You'll also note what the creators have said concerning him, specifically there youtube response videos. Further, his response to Rain after he found out what was going down was obvious reluctance and then psyching himself up. Specifically, he was psyching himself to protect everyone from a coming threat as he talks about in a later issue.

However, just because he's a good guy, doesn't mean that there's nothing more to him, and that he hasn't dealt with anything in his past before. After the thing about his parents, I'm reevaluating things. I also agree with others, that his superman stamina is notable.

Youtube videos?  What??   Huh Shocked  If this is a joke to prompt punk searches, I don't find it funny.

On the other stuff, I think we are largely in agreement.
