I thought it might be fun to summarize each character here for the readers' entertainment, especially new readers who are wondering who all these people are. Although I've tried to be as accurate as possible, if something here contradicts something in the comics, then the comics are right and this is wrong. Do not read too much into missing information; generally, it just means it has not been established in the comic.

Wilmot College is a private university in the small(-ish) town of Kearsarge, New Hampshire (approximately 43° 27′N, 71° 54′W). Kearsarge (named after the mountain to the south of the town) is roughly 25 miles northwest of Concord. It was founded in 1690, the first women's college in the United States (and the second oldest after Harvard). It became coeducational in 1983.
The various sports teams are the Wilmot Mantises.
The Wilmot College arms are:
A black shield, with a white bar, on which three red scallops (sable, on a fess argent three escallops gules). The supporters are a unicorn and a red praying mantis, standing on a green mountain. The motto below is "Letalior quam mas femina."
