I think the possibility of Vik's research being manipulated towards the Pink Clouds formula (or some variant of it) was raised almost before we learned that name (summer 2012). I don't remember who brought it up, but that question was lost among a myriad of other interesting plot threads and lines of inquiry.

Vik discovered Pink Clouds before ever meeting Q--and Q-ball doesn't strike me as having the sort of funds to ghost-fund a study from prison. Pearl showed up (at Deep Black Vinyl) almost the same instant that Laura became Vik's first test subject. If Vik and Laura were being manipulated, it wasn't by those two (at least not to begin with). I thought the most logical candidate (of the people we've met so far) was Yves. I thought he might be trying to reverse or parallel engineer Pink Clouds to circumvent a legal ruling and make some cash. But, he seems like a...well, as if he's being manipulated and is not malicious at this moment.
If Sawyer IS running a ring or using subliminals for his business, I suppose he could be choreographing things behind the scenes and funding Vik's study anonymously, but he doesn't give me that vibe.
If the Watch and perfume intersect, we could nominate the Kuplers since we know they're ruthless manipulators and sitting on an ocean of cash.

Unproven. I think GW's demonstrating the wide array of possibilities still open. PC could be addictive. We don't have enough data yet. The power of the shells could be habit-forming for both targets and wielder (though I hope Adrian doesn't get addicted to power).

Yeah, personally my guess is that Pearl is behind all this. Why? Possibly because she has some ill will towards her mom, possibly she's nuts, possibly she's being influenced by Pink Clouds at all. Q might be behind *her*, though.
