Release Schedule History

Hey Folks - Back when I was debating on whether to re-up my membership around April/May, I started going back through the release history to figure out if things were likely to catch up with the weeks of missed releases or if I was remembering previous release schedules through rose-colored glasses.  The releases for SJI were (and still are) regular as clockwork with a good story and constantly evolving art, but it's different when comparing two pages a week to a full 12/13 page feature release.  

I threw together a quick listing of the releases based on the past history and honestly wasn't super happy with how things were trending based on the past 6 months.  There were definitely times when things fell behind, but the good news is Daphne made those gaps of releases up.

I figure the listing below gives a rough accounting of the weeks where a release didn't occur as well as weeks where additional releases did occur to catch up for those weeks missing a full release.  Note this isn't calling for a mob of pitchforks and flaming torches but is simply the information on the site for those interested in seeing when things were released, missed, and extra/"make-up" content was provided.

Daphne's always said there is a plan to make up any missing releases, though nothing is currently defined/scheduled.

For 8/20/2012, I think you could reasonably count the entire week of SJI (a new one every day) as a 'release'.

I've been uncertain over the last year and a half or so whether or not I should complain about the relative inconsistency in content postings, given the regular influx of SJI content. SJI rarely has sex or mind control scenes anymore (I thought the initial hundred pages or so were great), and while the storyline is compelling, it's just not what I come here for. Because SJI is not for me, I've only had a couple of monthly subs for the last year, waiting for a good amount of regular size issues to accumulate before renewing. It works out all right, and I don't have any beef with Daphne/the site for deciding to lean this heavily on SJI.

FWIW, there was clearly a change of some kind in December 2012.  Everything was relatively consistent before that; during and after that month, we've gotten a grand total of four comics that aren't either SJI or SturkWurk.  I like Sturk fine, and SJI's ok, but there was much more variety before.  This was a very sudden change and I have to believe there is a 'backstage' reason for this.  I'd love to know what that is, but we likely never will.

It's important to say that I don't 'blame' Daphne for any of this, but whatever happened, happened, and it does make me reconsider subscribing every month.  I loved all the artists, storylines, and variety; at least for now, that's been reduced.  I would also like to note that we are still owed 9 or 10 issues for weeks with no content.  This is content that we did pay for but never received.  Again, prior to Dec '12, Daphne always made up for empty weeks; I think whatever happened back then is still preventing her from doing so now.  While I appreciate that, it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Let us ALSO remember that there is apparently a brand-new site coming, and many (or all) of these issues may be addressed when that launches (or is announced formally).  Again, prior to Dec '12, Daphne was a model of consistency, and so we have good reason to believe this site will return to its former variety and timeliness.  But for the moment, it doesn't look like we know when that will be.

The trouble is that if everyone waited a few months for content to build and then paid for one month's membership to get it all, there'd be no money to provide that content in the first place, so there'd be no content, so there'd be even less income. And as I say, there are lead times before the content can appear.

It's a very good point, and I certainly feel a bit opportunistic for doing what I do. Even so, the sporadic content (outside of SJI) and the difficulty of paying for a membership (I'm in Europe, and paying for movies which are pricier than a standalone membership was previously is a bit cumbersome) has made it more bother than it's worth to maintain a monthly membership.

Well, we're certainly not going to twit someone for doing something we explicitly allow, although it does have the exact affect that GodWiling describes.

Once we get some kind of reasonable repetitive billing working again, we are planning to start structuring content delivery so that there is a clear benefit to continuous membership (please, no one panic and start peppering me with questions about how that is going to work... I don't know yet!).

I really appreciate Bahamad's work! (Saves me the trouble of doing it myself. ) We'll get caught up, although we're still working on the schedule and details.
