I'm curious if the look on Raven's face is meant to express some internal conflict about this. Given that she was under Miriam's control so recently I wonder if she might be feeling some urges to stop the de-Jakob-ing process.

Also, I'm probably reading too much into this, but the vibe I'm getting from these last few pages is that de-Jakob-ing is also acting as a metaphor for removing internalized misogyny and self-hatred. I guess we'll see how things go with Mallory to see if I'm completely off-based here or not...

Her happiness for Marliese is perhaps tinged with insecurity about having been left off the character list for the page.

While it will most likely turn out that Raven is one of Rain's sisters or something, and very well-acquainted with Jakob, I'm not sure we've any reason at this point to think she has a clue what's going on here.

Do we actually know how Jakob was in Marliese's mind? They never met, but there's a bit of him in the watch? So she needed to be bye-Jacked by being shown the watch? And she knew the settings to use to do that. But she seems always to have had some familiarity with the watch settings. Where did that come from? I'm confused. Do all the women from the night of the watch need to have this done to them?

It seems that given recent events detailing how the crystals work, Jakob was able to imprint upon the original crystal, which was in the watch up until Julian’s hit and run upon Dani. That would mean that regardless of the loyalty programming to Adrian, any of the girls ensnared by that original watch either during the night of the watch (Erin, Mallory, Marliese, etc) or before (Miriam, Cherry, Echo and Claudia, Dani) still had the nugget of Jakob’s programming baked into the cake. It makes lots of things make more sense in retrospect, particularly Jakob’s trap for Erin in Cherry’s head and Mallory/Cherry claiming that Zenon had become a sort of ‘echo’ of Jakob. It also explains why giving away the repaired watch wasn’t as monumental as it seemed, because if the crystal in the repaired watch was attuned to Adrian, anyone Jakob attempted to program with it would have to contend with that bit of Adrian, just as it seems anyone contending with this new crystal will have to contend with Dani

Thanks for that. It more or less chimes with what I was figuring, although I confess I've long since lost track of the various crystals. I suppose it wasn't confusion on my part so much as disbelief (tinged with horror) that Adrian is going to have to go through the rest of his harem doing this to each of them. Hopefully we'll only have to watch a couple of pages of that before cutting away to a different thread. Sometimes it can be a good thing when that happens.

I'm not sure if we have any reason to believe that the watch was ever used on Miriam though - her mind seemed to be filled only with memories of the pendant crystal being used on her.

I think the lingering conditioning Adrian is referring to is all the crystal exposure Miriam had under Jakob since he was never able to use the watch on her. I think the implication is that it’s her lineage from Patrick combined with Jakob’s influence which has activated this corrupting instinct in her from as far back as she started playing with Heidi. Don’t forget as well that earlier this morning she and Erin displayed a reaction to the “tits and holes” motif when Jacqui was retelling her college stories. The second ritual may also have awakened something. The memory did say that Jakob was saving her for something special. This may be that realized

Oh we know - or think we know - that Miriam had the 'tits and holes' programming, because it was experiencing the memory of that that imparted the same programming to Erin. But Jakob appears only to have used the pendant on Miriam. We didn't see Jakob in Miriam's mind interacting with Erin and the others, we only saw Miriam's memories of him.

I've been fairly sure ever since I realized that she and Adrian were the same age and starsign that Miriam was literally born to be some kind of tool for Jakob. But I suspect she is what she is by birth. His programming meant no one could "touch" her. It appears to have been a mistake to overcome that.
