We had it confirmed that Echo was one of the women with Claudia in 115 so, despite the title, I don't think this can be her dead soul. My online-encyclopaedic knowledge of old Greek fiction tells me that in some versions, when Orpheus went into the underworld to retrieve his dead wife, he was presented only with an apparition of her. So perhaps this is a targeted distraction for Adrian. This does make me think though of the apparently dead-souled Adrian in the first of the three outcomes.

What's the significance of the 12 in the title?
