Fucked up, but explains a lot going back. Now I just want to know what Rain knew; was Rain playing Marliese or was Marliese playing Rain?

Maybe neither.  If Marliese simply has a compulsion not to make Jakob unhappy, it would have been dormant when everybody thought he was dead.  Now that they know he's alive those old compulsions have force again.  We may be looking at people who aren't so much following Jakob's orders as upholding his interests.

I'd thought perhaps he'd met her at her job in student health back when he was a teacher, but per #359 that was back in 1986, and Marliese isn't that old.
