My impression is that he was asking Rain about the proposal to use the Watch on Cherry to cure her brain damage prior to Erin using her magic to heal the rest.  We have some evidence to suggest that Adrian views Rain as an authority on the use and implications of the Watch.  (It may also be significant that she is the only person Adrian knows who is both aware of the Watch and not either his slave or enemy.  Who else can he discuss the Watch with and get an honest response?)

I was kind of joking about the respecting Erin thing. Although only kind of. Erin clearly wanted to try to help Cherry. I don't believe that was going to happen without this injection of stone into Adrian's heart. Indeed, if that is what's going to happen, then surely that is the point being made at the moment: the Jakob made him do it.

If you like. But I suspect that of their own volition, the women in Adrian's life would have arranged a suitable plan and executed it by now. It's not like they were waiting for Mr Strategy to guide them. They were waiting for permission. He has been the brake here.
