Probably both, but I think the HK book matches the designs on the Restricted Section Drawer and certainly is of a piece with the...er, decorative skull.

It's odd, I'm not sure the outgoing Head Librarian is talking about this generation of assistants.  They speak of her more with fear and trembling than awe and barely controlled lust or jealousy.  Could she be talking about when she first got the job?  I'm not even sure we have confirmation of a liaison between her and Mallory.  Though certainly one could have occurred before our story started.
