Well, more like at least three.
It could be Kanti and Q (likely) it could be Laura either in flashback or current, or it could be Erin paying off her billiards debt or putting her lessons with Dani to use (not very likely)

And it was Kanti and Querek. He's traveling the "Bigger" route of character development. At least with him we had a warning that he might be trouble before he got introduced to significant power. However, this does make the question about our missing time with Vik and Laura more important and more interesting.

What's with the numbers tattooed on Q's forearm? Was he in a concentration camp or something?

Octavia, I'm glad to amuse you.
I honestly didn't notice the ink on Q's arm, but unless that's the world's most detailed barcode or 0s and 1s from computer code, I don't think it's a number--it's too long even to be a phone number on Dark Angel (which goes out to 15 digits). Taking another look at it, it looks like some sort of phrase that we (the readers) are seeing upside down.

Given that SJI is set in the modern day, and Q isn't that old, I think we can rule out that possibility.

He could have been the possessor of the Dick Clark gene. That would explain his appearance and fashion sense and make him more interesting than the villain he is replacing.
Let me reiterate, our missing time with Vik and Laura has become more mysterious and crucial because it gives us a window into Vik (who could be starting on a more intricate and interesting villainous path of his own...though I rather hope not), and it might give us some idea of which hypnotism method is stronger (which would be crucial information as this arc progresses and Adrian crosses paths and engages in a contest of wills, weapons, and skill with Querek.

I mean SJI is set in the modern world, but that doesn't mean you couldn't throw in some supernatural/science fiction stuff. You haven't really done that so far, but I was just guessing. It's not your style for SJI (so far), but I wouldn't necessarily put it past you.

That's why I love this strip (and this site) so much. The plots are unpredictable. Excellent, but unpredictable. Did I mention unpredictable?
