So, Cherry was using her magic to turn Julian into some sort of unwilling blood phantasm? But Caitlyn was able to shoot around him to break Cherry's concentration or otherwise sever the magical connection?

Sorry. Julian's scarf/cravat thing is a color similar to Cherry's conjured whatever-it-is. At first glance, I thought she might have used a spell to transform him, and it struck him in the chest.
