This is not a pleasant topic, but here we go.
We've had to start enforcing age verification on MCT and MCC. Many US states* and at least one country (UK) now require third-aparty positive age verification of any site visitors before giving them access to explicit material. The exact kind of age verification varies depending on the jurisdiction, but it is usually something involving scanning a government-issued ID.
Our verification service is
Yoti. If we see you are coming from a jurisdiciton that requires age verification (based on your IP address), we'll send you over to them to complete the process. We do not receive any of the information that you give Yoti; Yoti just gives us a "yes, they're over 18" message back.
If we cannot detect if you are or are not in an age-verification jurisdiction, we have to assume you are. This includes visitors using VPNs, residential proxies, Tor exit nodes, and the like.
The good news is that once your account is verified, you don't need to re-verify as long as you log in with the same account. (Tennessee requires that we re-verify every 60 minutes, because of course they do, which just means we will log you out and you have to log in again.)
Needless to say, we hate this. It's a pointless moral panic that it is being done 100% for political purposes. Unfortunately, there is no political will to resist this incredible intrusion on civil liberties, and we cannot assume that the US Supreme Court will slap these laws down.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have questions, please feel free to
contact us.
