This is the Lovers card, which can represent love of course, but also often represents an important decision that needs to be made.

Psyched for the new chapter.

Psyched for the new chapter.

Me too. Super happy to see this on the calendar again. Only complaint is that this doesn't come out more often  ;)

I wonder if the decision has something to do with attacking Nicolette's husband? She probably is starting to guess that something is up with Daffyd's women... be pretty hot if she asks to join his harem/be turned into a massively busty slave willingly.

Yes!
More Nicolette. :o

I hear you, brother. :D

Loved Nicolette's willing submission to the spells in this one... really looking forward to when Bethany and Nicollete can spend some time together.

I think you changed the script again... what a bother lol

Definitely. Can't figure this one out. I'm assuming this is all meant to represent Daffyd growing more powerful with the Book.

The Lovers card turned out to represent love after all.

I think it's just to make life hard for us. Daphne traditionally likes actual mind control scenes/commands to be obfuscated to some degree, iirc.

Well Daphne could have just used random Voynich characters from the start. But at the beginning, Daffyd just used direct letter-cognates; then as he started to really embrace his new lifestyle as a man of wealth and taste, the words became cipher-shifts. Now it's something else again, possibly random or possibly another cipher I'm not familiar with. To me that's a progression.

The only thing I'll say is that it is not a particularly hard-to-break encryption; we're not using AES256 or something. :)

That would be pretty funny if you did though.

Oh yes! Bethany and Nicollete together!

(also, yeah. I need to be able to translate the magic words)

It's not a Caesar cypher...

Beyond that, I'm lost.

Time to fire up the CUDA farm and start Hidden Knowledge mining.

uh huh, and what sort of a thing is that?

CUDA is a parallel-programming API provided by nVIDIA, which allows running parallel processing computations on graphics cards.  These days it is commonly used for crypto-currency mining.  Hence the "Hidden Knowledge mining" joke.

This is why you can't get a decent video card at a non-ridiculous price right now.

And yet, I still have no idea what magic words Daffyd is saying. ???

(feed me)

I've always found the encryption to be easy when I had knowledge of what was being encrypted... Or which method was being used... Or the key for the encryption...

Without one or more of those, it's usually not so easy.

And, I think, we have some new words. After all, we've never had a 5 character word/phrase before. Nor have we had a 20 or 22 character word/phrase either. The previous short words were 6 characters and the longest phrases where 6 and 15 characters.

Is it possible there are junk characters in these new phrases?

That would be just mean.

Based on the history of classic, epic-length MC fiction, Daphne could end issue 29 with a huge cliffhanger and never write another issue.

THAT is how you get people to keep talking about a MC story 30 years later.

Or does that hit your definition of mean, Daphne?

There's a nine- or ten-character sequence that appears several times. I'd expect junk characters to show up in a string of that length, in which case the same junk characters would have to be being used each time. My guess would be that that string of characters corresponds to 'slave', with two coded characters corresponding to one decoded one. I was thinking maybe each pair might contain an encoded letter and a shift in the offset, but I've had no luck going in that direction. I have no patience with these things though. And there's always enough of a suspicion that we've gone back to Esperanto to dishearten me.

"slavecunte", as I recall, was the dominant word in early issues (which were more easily decoded). In later issues, he went to more one-word descriptions of the desired outcome, so I don't think that's going to be helpful, but there you are. I think the best way to approach this is going to include a catalog of all the known commands and their lexicons... and I'm pretty sure I don't have the energy for that. :D

Just re-read this and remembered how much I enjoyed Nicolette's willing submission to Daffyd's control. Exquisite example of the kink.
