Title: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 11:30:26 am Wow, 2014 was quite the ride. Pfew.
Please vote for your favorite three comics of 2014. I realize that picking three may be hard, but think of the three that you most enjoyed, would miss if they weren't there, would like to see continued, would like the artist thereof to do more... however works for you. And, of course, comments below! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: raven on December 24, 2014, 11:36:37 am This was a real toughy for me. So many good stories!

Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 11:50:01 am Surprised that Beyond Rubies isn't on the list. Well, we just assumed that was everyone's favorite! :) Added. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: mi_english on December 24, 2014, 11:50:50 am I would have voted for con-fused and beyond rubies, had they been included
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 11:53:13 am I would have voted for con-fused and beyond rubies, had they been included We didn't actually run a Con 'Fused in 2014, although one is coming in 2015. Beyond Rubies is there now! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: grimtidings on December 24, 2014, 11:56:27 am Audiophilia would have been 4th on my list if it were there. :)
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 11:57:06 am Audiophilia would have been 4th on my list if it were there. :) Votes can be changed. :) It's there now! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: elenchos on December 24, 2014, 12:03:14 pm Beyond Rubies is there now! Now we're talking. BR, Hidden Knowledge, and Audiophilia got my votes. Honorable mentions to Startup, By The Book, Roll Playing, of course SJI... And, damn it, Con'Fused, 2014 issue or not. Really, there's so much good story and art here that we're almost spoiled. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 12:03:52 pm Really, there's so much good story and art here that we're almost spoiled. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: zerocross on December 24, 2014, 12:29:15 pm Chrysalis would have gotten my vote; it is amazing but the latest doll arc aesthetics do nothing for, unfortunately. I'm worried it plays too much into that fantasy and aesthetic in the future, which would be a waste of a vote.
Roll Playing nearly got my vote too but the story feels like it's unfolding too slowly. I feel we get too little per installment. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: BorisL on December 24, 2014, 12:31:08 pm Hidden Knowledge and Beyond Rubies were no-brainers. After that it gets a bit more complicated. I went for By The Book in the end as it's the one that gave me most pleasure out of the group that I think of as 'prolific', the strips that aren't the highest quality but are reliable and appear often. I could have gone for several others. I shall refrain (because it's the festive season, ho, ho) from noting which ones I think 'oh no, not again' when I see them on the schedule.
Yeah, count me as another who wants to see more of ConFused. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: John on December 24, 2014, 12:34:39 pm I vote for Beyond Rubies, Con'Fused and The Chrysalis, kinda took a liking to the Chrysalis story
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: jmundt29 on December 24, 2014, 01:22:55 pm A lot of good stuff to choose from:
SJI is my absolute favorite, and I had to show respect to the promising Faerie Tail. I led with my heart and voted for Waiting Room, hoping that its promise would be realized. My honorable mention include: By the Book--one of Sturkwurk's workhorse series that's always entertaining Cuckoo's Nest--Sexy and goofy with great art, and Free Cable. When this site started, Hidden Knowledge was my favorite comic by far, but in the last two years, it's been eclipsed. Respect to Extreme Makeover as a recurring single-page. Nice story and GREAT Art from the SJI collaborative team. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: xarinth on December 24, 2014, 01:56:09 pm Such a hard choice!
I voted for Chrysalis (favorite newer storyline), Roll Playing (I'm a D&D nerd...), and Free Cable (work for a cable company and find it very ....). This however does nothing for the others I enjoy such as Beyond Rubies, Drains(has a lot of potential I am hopeful for), Lost Weekend, Waiting Room, The Occurence, Sudo, and Behind the Door (I like this new story and hope for more to flesh it out.) Can't wait for the 2015 to see what we get... Thank you to all of the artists, writers, and site-runners for such a great site and all the hard work that goes into (and went into it this year with those CC issues.) Happy Holidays (or Happy Thursday and New Year) to all! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: PsiLance on December 24, 2014, 02:51:10 pm Such a shame Roll Playing and Con-Fused aren't included.
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: jpew2007 on December 24, 2014, 03:05:01 pm Well BEYOND RUBIES and CUCKOO's NEST , are my primary two. And then the third (from these listed here), would be.... START-UP.
Actually Con-Fused would be my third choice but, I've read the previous comments I know why it was excluded from the list. Looking forward to the next installment though. :) Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Daphne on December 24, 2014, 03:10:59 pm Such a shame Roll Playing and Con-Fused aren't included. Roll Playing is there! See above for Con 'Fused. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: william acosta on December 24, 2014, 03:25:41 pm audio for sure. roll playing and free cable i have enjoyed. i just wish the comics were longer.
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: jmundt29 on December 24, 2014, 03:29:34 pm Very good art and concept on Roll Playing and Chrysalis. Personally, I have higher hopes for Chrysalis than Roll Playing until I get a clearer understanding of the guy in RP.
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: ainfinite on December 24, 2014, 04:48:54 pm I wanted to restrict my consideration to stuff that actually started this year, or at least returned after a long absence. I went with:
Faerie Tail Drains Waiting Room If it had been just an overall vote, Audiophilia, Chrysalis, By the Book and Found Objects/Bearing Gifts would have been strong contenders too. As for stuff I'm less into, I really wish Free Cable would have stayed a one shot, and I hope Sudo and Behind the Door stay the same. It's all up to your usual uber-high standards, but some stuff just feels more like a one shot than a serial. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: pervagi on December 24, 2014, 05:03:10 pm I chose "Bigger", "Chrysalis" & "Drains".
I would have normally put Hidden Knowledge and SJI down but felt they were no brainers and that other favorites needed to be acknowledged. I don't 100% know why I like Bigger, but it just strikes the right chord with me. At first I thought the art was kinda harsh but it really grew on me after a while. Chrysalis is a good concept and #8 was one of my all time favorite comics that has ever been on this site. Loved the artwork....the elf was HOT!!! Don't know if that part of the storyline has any more legs to it, but would love to see more! Drains......I was so happy to see it's return this year and hope to see more issues in the future. I will give honorable mentions to "Roll Playing" (I too am a former D&D player...love the concept), "Sparkle", "By The Book" "Audiophilia", "Behind The Door" & "Con'Fused". Bearing Gifts, Beyond Rubies and Martian Harem are staples (and that's a good thing) that I expect will have a long life here. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: svengali23 on December 24, 2014, 05:33:17 pm Personal rankings:
1. Beyond Rubies- best art, best sex scenes, best characterization. I want to see more of what happens to Julie and her friends, also to see the further stages. Also, what is the genesis of the Rubies? How do they work, who made them? 2. Audiophilia- great art. 3. The Hidden Knowledge- good plot, great characters. I like that Daffyd is not just in a void, and that he's not wholly domineering and misogynistic. The comics are the best at MC are the ones that have nuanced characters, and girls who maintain some persona during the course of their evolution. 4. By the Book- what I like about this, and Beyond Rubies, is the element of the girls themselves having agency in the hypnotic process. 5. Bearing Gifts- good art, good scenarios, becoming a little monotonous. Why doesn't the main protagonist show some more creativity. 6. Confused- a fun excursion into geek fantasies. 7. Sparkle- best new art. I really liked the art style. 8. Roll Playing- a fun geeky concept. It would be interesting to see this story go in the direction of 'highly sexual D &D game'- like a combination game session/ orgy, something like that. Or maybe to see the girls becoming subsumed into their characters, and doing cosplay... 9. St. James Infirmary- I like the characters and the storyline, the greater world, just don't like scrolling through the archive. 10. Chrysalis- The dislikes: I just don't care for the art for Bigger, the Persuader. Storywise, I feel that Faerie Tail is too abrupt- I prefer the works that take time with the evolution and the process, that really indulge in the transformation. Cuckoo's Nest has good art and a since of humor, but it's too over the place. I'm going to skip talking about Sudo and other one-shots because I don't know where they are going yet, plot wise. #2. would have been Con-fused #3 would have been bearing gifts Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Also, Con'Fused isn't on the list because no issue was published in 2014. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: sohta123 on December 26, 2014, 12:40:21 am Agree that BR probably didn't 'need' to be on the poll since it's most everyone's favorite anyhow.
After that a lot of the series have single issues that are better than others but many equal out overall (with a few exceptions both ways). The most outstanding issue IMO is Chrysalis #8. Incredibly hot! And the artwork is first rate. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: jlpicrdh on December 26, 2014, 02:02:07 am Too many to pick from. I can do top ten pretty easily, but top 3 is sacrificing some really great ones, so here are my top ten.
10) Start-Up - I like the progression story. Not sure how much potential this has as a series, but I would like to see more like this. 9) Checkered Past - Honestly I'm not sure about this one. I like the occult elements that it seemed to be bringing in, but it's backed off that. And it's sometimes confusing to follow. Still like it though, but it would have probably been higher a few issues ago. 8) Lost Weekend - A bit early to tell where this is going, but there were some really button-pushing scenes, especially in the first two. 7) Cuckoo's Nest - I like the variety. My personal favorite was way back in 8, but it's still going strong. 6) Free Cable - A bit formulaic, but I like the formula. 5) The Chrysalis - I like the setup, a lot of potential with this, and what we've seen so far has been great. 4) Roll Playing - Great setup, and I'm really curious to see where it goes, how the fantasy world will impact the real world (like the Beyonder's BE ray). 3) The Occurrence - I love the technique they use in the story, I love the slow seduction and the awareness they have of being programmed. 2) Drains - So glad to see this one back. It's something unique for this site, and I'm all about unique. 1) Beyond Rubies - No brainer (pun intended :P ). This has everything. Favorites not on the options list: Celestinon - Looking forward to this one's return. The first one really peaked my curiosity. Con'Fused - What's not to like: transformation, mind control, and nerdy stuff! Free Trade Zone - I think this and BR are my two favorites. Can't believe I forgot it. Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: stobe on December 26, 2014, 07:39:00 am Beyond Rubies, Con'Fused and The Chrysalis
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: else042 on December 26, 2014, 09:37:33 pm The Hidden Knowledge - More recent issues have become a little plot heavy, but I'm still enjoying this series and keep looking forward to seeing where it's heading to!
Cuckoo's Nest - I'm surprised at how much I enjoy this series! The further it goes, the more it heads off into unexpected directions. Plus, I'm a sucker for seeing someone powerful like the High Priestess (or 'Jenni' :p ) being reduced to an eager slave. Chrysalis - Proof that sometimes the simple stories are the best. Nice variety in designs, to boot! ...I'd list Faerie Tail as a runner up, just because we just got a follow up, and I'd like to see more! Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: Tony on December 26, 2014, 11:47:07 pm Tough to limit it to three. I'm almost tempted to leave off my favorite to give some others a chance. I have at least 8 different ones I've enjoyed greatly this year not that I didn't enjoy the others too.
Title: Re: Vote for your favorite comic of 2014! Post by: stretchgilbert on February 17, 2015, 07:56:30 pm Waiting Room, Confused, Bigger(Though I Don't Care For That Type Of ArtWork), And The Persuader (Which I Like The Later Artwork) I Love The Artwork For Animal Instinct.
