Wow.  I totally forgot it was Jacqui's night.  The link to Q appears to be based on Pink Clouds.  Or at least reinforced by it.

A question I hadn't thought to ask.  What exactly is Yates' conveniently absent wife studying at Wilmot?  Is she another chemist or physicist? ???

In the field.  What field where, researching what?  Could she come back with a mystical artifact to further upset the applecart?  Is she really into open relationships, or is Yates B.S.ing as married men in wandering eyes and faraway wives have been known to do?

I've yet to see concrete proof that Q is capable of more than lust and deviousness.  And, if he really loved Jacqui, why was he allowing Pearl's infatuation to progress and sporting with Annie and who knows who else.

Seems like he knew he had a good thing and he manipulated the situation to get it.  Also, Q might be the most cunning chemist in town, but he might be the least scholastically bright.  He couldn't get into Wilmot back in the day and we've seen no indication that the chemistry program (undergrad and postgrad) has dropped off since '83.

I think Jacqui means the harem, but she could be referring to any of the combinations you list.  Seems like Adrian took her remark to mean the harem based on his response.

I'm not challenging that archaeologists spend time literally in fields, but it makes a difference if she's in Morocco, or Egypt, or Peru, or China, or somewhere in New Hampshire studying Pre-Columbian tribal habits.

Loving someone wouldn't prevent him from being a shark in business or unscrupulous scientifically, but one would presume that if he actually loved Jacqui, he would

1. Have taken steps to nurture that relationship when he had it instead of sabotaging it on multiple fronts and
2. would be using his power and access to win her back instead of trying to build up some kind of petty empire.  I accept that he has feelings of lust and possessiveness for Jacqui, a long memory, and a reason to carry several grudges.  I haven't seen real evidence of genuine affection.  I stand ready to be corrected on that score, but I don't see it at the moment.

My guess would be that her feelings for Q were reinforced by him using Pink Clouds on her. When he wasn't there to keep reinforcing them, they faded.

Another possibility is that Rain did something.  She's the one who told Jacqui that Q was out of jail and living in Kearsage, and Jacqui certainly has a strong emotional response to her.  Suppose that Rain proved to Jacqui that her feelings for Q were artificial but couldn't remove them.

I've been wondering about Jacqui's origins.  Could mother-daughter tension on an epic scale run in the Ravella line?

I can see Rain intervening, but we know Rain is nudging and directing behind the scenes now and we don't really have knowledge of what she can and would do or why she might do the things she's capable of doing.

I'm sincerely hoping that Pink Clouds is responsible for Jacqui's rather revolting, repulsive even, attitude towards her daughter. I can't understand how the people around her aren't more judgemental about that!!!

Does Pearl call Jacqui "Mom" or "Jacqui," or "Jacqueline" or just "hey you?"

I think the souring of the overt relationship is Q and Pink Clouds, but again--as I said, Jacqui's unspecified relationship with...to? (???) Rain raises questions about parallels with the state of Jacqui and Pearl's relationship.

I don't see anything that definitively supports it yet, either.  I was just trying to wrap my head around Jacqui's connection to Rain, and Jacqui's supernatural gorgeousness, which if she or Yvette could bottle and sell, they'd be cosmetics industry billionaires.  Plus, I noticed the combination of frostiness and familiarity between Jacqui and Rain has some parallels to Jacqui's current relationship with Pearl.  In my straw-grasping confusion, I spat out my thoughts.
