Title: Lettering? Post by: Daphne on July 08, 2010, 02:22:06 am Hi!
I'm creating this thread due to some concerns expressed over on the MC Forum about the organization of the lettering on some of the comics; let's move the chat here, thanks! Title: Re: Lettering? Post by: SoulBlazer on July 08, 2010, 09:59:20 am If by lettering you mean: some of the comics are hard to follow and 'read' correctly as our eyes are bouncing around from line to line, you're right. Having it in bubbles and aranged a little bit better, so that we're clear that 'this is read first, this is read second, etc.' would go a long way of helping with that. It's not a deal breaker, but it's the only annoying thing about the comics.
Title: Re: Lettering? Post by: Technophyle on July 08, 2010, 02:22:23 pm It is an issue. Over at MCForum most of the issues I had were raised: conversations starting on the right hand side of the panel, confusion as to the flow of the conversation, and so on.
Title: Re: Lettering? Post by: master on July 10, 2010, 07:34:05 am Not an MC Forum member, but am glad to hear this has been mentioned...clearly we have some word balloon problems. If I may make a suggestion (even though i suspect someone else may have beaten me to this one): when you're working with a splash page, or any one-page image, consider moving all the text to the side (the treatment you're using in "Martian Harem")...even the dialog, when you think it's clear enough who is saying what. And yes, that makes it less a "comic" and more an "illustrated story"...but if the artist is being lazy enough to think he can get away with one column per page, but the writer wants a long interplay of short dialog balloons, then without some compromise you will end up with a cluttered & unreadable page that spoils both copy and art.
Just something to consider. |
