1) If you're going to be a mind controller and a nice guy, you can't let yourself feel guilty about the things you've done. 2) If you're going to be a mind controller and a bastard, you must ensure the loyalty of each member of your harem. Personally, I like the idea of two mind controllers fighting over a harem, so long as one of the two (hopefully the winner) has at least some redeeming qualities, like not being utterly abusive towards the controlled and not giving into power fantasy to the point that he thinks he's God. It'd make for a good comeuppance if, like in Beyond Rubies, the badder of the bad guys (let's be honest here) wound up getting a total sex and attitude change resulting in their joining the harem. On the other hand, the badder guy might do that to the less bad guy just to prove his superiority. Something like that happened in the mcstories.com story Fantasy Made True by Moose 2016. Can't wait to see the conclusion to this duel.
