Title: CBR/CBZ download format
Post by: stiggle on August 19, 2015, 10:03:16 am
As well as PDF could ComicBook Archive files (CBR, CBZ) be done?

It wouldn't be hard to add this to our production workflow, at least for .cbz files. It's a shame that the standard for metadata isn't better baked.

Well the meta-data structure is half-baked at the moment :-)
but its only part supported by the readers as not all of them actually support meta data as either zip comments or an xml file.

Yeah, it would be kind of useful for something to specify where this CoMet XML file should actually go, and what it should be named. Details, details. :)

ComicInfo stored in ComicInfo.xml - http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/CBR_and_CBZ  and https://comicinfoeditor.codeplex.com/

CoMet stored in CoMet.xml spec http://www.denvog.com/comet/comet-specification/

ComicBookInfo stored as JSON in the ZIP Header/Comment field. https://code.google.com/p/comicbookinfo/  (doesn;t work in CBR files)

You can actually use all three formats if you want.

Ah, here's a more elaborate spec for ComicBookInfo (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Tu9eoPWc_8SPgxx5J4-6mEaaRWLLv-bEA8i_jcIe3IE/preview?pli=1).

The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.

Support all of them, or none of them. A lot of the 'mainstream' comic archives don't contain any meta data. None of the Sandman Overture have any (which are the only ones I have on this laptop).

I'd really like to see this.

I prefer the individual JPGs over the PDF versions for download--it's probably just a prejudice, but I have to blow them up pretty big to enjoy reading the dialog, and the JPGs seem to handle that better. I have a similar experience to the JPGs with CBZs I've had (a limited set, but still); a far better user experience than reading PDFs of comics, IMO.

Partial to C++11 and C99 myself. And of course RFC 1097. Pity that never came to fruition.

So many nerds.

Yes, I know geeks and nerds are different but most people don't know this and lump them all together.

An 8 year old short...

The Fateful Wish
By William Pratt

“And for my final wish, I wish for nerds to get respect!”

“Wish granted,” said the Genie. “A pleasure doing business with you.”

The Genie vanished back into the lamp, and Calvin looked down the front of his pants, smiling at what he saw. He couldn’t wait to get to the bathroom and try it out.

Unfortunately, his sister hogged the bathroom, putting on her make-up. Only this time her nails looked strategically chewed and she wore huge, coke bottle-lensed glasses. On the counter sat a contact case and with his now-perfect vision, Cal could read that they were specially made to distort her eyesight enough to need her glasses. As Cal watched, she applied a pair of fake buck teeth.

“Do you mind?” she lisped, glaring at him. “I have a hot date tonight.”

“Oh, not that asshole jock, Nathan, again!”

“Eeew. No! Rupert is taking me to the new Dustin Diamond computer hacker movie. He’s so hot!”

    “Who, Rupert?”

“Duh! Dustin! Rupert’s not bad, though.”

“Lovely,” he muttered, headed down to the kitchen for some Frosted Sugar Bombs. “She’s still a fashion whore.”

The Fox fanfare (with the Cinemascope extension) erupted in his pocket. Pulling out his cell phone he answered with, “Yo. Whazzaaaaap?”

“Calvin!” shouted Sam. “We’re all bussing down to Lynwood! Be at the mall in twenty!”

    “Uhm… What for?”

“My god! Haven’t you heard? Weird Al was gunned down half an hour ago in a shoot-out with a bunch of east coast COBOL-coding motherfuckers!”

Silence reigned as Cal fell to his knees.

    “NOOOOOOOOO!”
