I see the characters' looks have changed a lot as the comic has evolved.  Who were the covergirls on the second cover?  I think the blonde might be a different version of Danielle, but none of the others are identifiable at all.

Cover of 2  to I think that Sue, Any,Caitlyn, Laura
The one who got hypnosis by the the doctor.

Sue was the only one I thought I MIGHT recognize--I took a wild stab that the blonde was an earlier form of Danielle, but Sue's in it so rarely that I only had an inkling.  As for the rest--Who?

Clockwise from upper left, the covergirls are Sue, Laura, Amy, and Caitlyn.

And we have yet to see Sue anywhere except at her job. It will be nice when she takes a "more active role" in the story line.

Okay, it would be a good idea if members had the option to swap in favorite archived covers.  The new one is an interesting tableau, but #4 is the best by a wide margin. :'(

The software upgrade doesn't even allow you to view a blown up version of the new cover because you can't get to the main page without logging in.  Please give Cover #6 its own topic with a blowup.  Incidentally, who's on the cover.  I recognize Erin's hair (and if this is about the storm, the blonde is probably Rain), but who's that in the center?  Jacqui?  Pearl?  Claudia?  Someone we haven't met yet?

Okay, I took your advice.  Interesting.  I'm a little confused because that doesn't look like Rain or Dani's shade or hair length...is that blonde Meghan? ???  :o  More importantly, that DEFINTELY doesn't seem like Jacqui or Mallory in the center.  Who is that? ??? I don't think we know anyone with dark brown hair with red highlights yet.  Oh, and what's with the shells? ??? ????  :-\

I'm going with the "Dani, Mallory, Erin" hypothesis.  As the other three primary residents of the Infirmary it makes sense for them to be together.  I think the highlights on the brunette are from the red light.

The shells are a mystery, though.

So a deep storm come for the harem :o
but there alway a rainbow after a rain storm   ;)
I also think is Danielle,Mallory, Erin the main residents of the infirmary

last cove tell us the history behind Jacqualyn family

I agree on it being Dani, Mallory, and Erin.

My take on the shells is:   the painting: "The Birth of Venus" By Botticelli

and then I realized.  yup the scallops on the school crest.

If ever there were goddesses, these would be three.

There seems to be more platinum in Dani's hair on this cover.  I apologize about the confusion over Mallory, I'd never seen her in an environment that made it look like she had wizard red in her hair.  Cover #4 is still my favorite by a lot, but this is an interesting one.

From the past The three angels (Charlie's Angels)

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive
Post by: jmundt29 on August 04, 2013, 06:55:57 am
So, just as we begin to understand the importance of the shells, they are retired.  And someone decided to do a Charlie's Angels homage (but with a Drew Barrymore slice).  Didn't all the Angels before "Alex" have guns?  Shouldn't Erin have an athame or glowing hands or something?

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive
Post by: OctaviaMoon on August 04, 2013, 10:15:49 am
Isn't a "homage" exactly that? And not necessarily an exact reproduction of the original? And the "someone" was me...because I thought it would be cool and a good idea?!

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive
Post by: jmundt29 on August 04, 2013, 03:58:19 pm
This medium is a lousy communicator of tone.  The homage was a cool idea well-executed.  The Drew Barrymore slice threw me because there's an element of cartoony ridiculousness to the McG films that I find annoying.  Also, you matched Dani and Mallory to their weapons of expertise.  Erin can use knives or magic.  What about a glowing pentacle at her throat or a dagger in one of her hands as she poses?

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive

I like it!  Better this than a parody of Disney Princesses or the Rescue Rangers.

It's a nice cover.  An adjustment after Naked Fire Shells, but quite pleasing.  It was just Erin without a weapon threw me.

I detest the "princess" label for Disney heroines as marketed since the 90s.  It's just dumb.  I didn't get the Rescue Rangers reference.  If it's C&D animated, there's only one female character.  If it's something else, I don't know it.

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive
Post by: Chettbaker on August 07, 2013, 01:56:12 am
Detest is such a strong word. Princesses bad?  Really?  Heroines then?   Then again there are many more than just three..Leading female protagonist roles in Disney Universe.  I think it would be interesting to see Daphne & the Gangs interpretations (and see who they choose).     As for the Rescue Rangers.  I figure Chip & Dale and Gadget.  As for gender.. Who lets gender stand in the way of a great costume?  I mean really nowadays artists and cosplayers alike are swapping character gender roles all over the place (look up Marvel or Disney gender swap under images on Google..though some results may be more disturbing than others).   Women are even dressed up like Doctor Who's time machine.. which  I'm sure has lead to more then a few lewd jokes, none of which I can currently fathom.

You are forgetting the FULL extended Cast and crew of Schooby Doo.   There was Scooby-Dum and nephew Scrappy-Doo plus all the special guests.  Don't let negativity stand in the way of a good story.. I mean technically the extended harem consists of guest star cameos.

Yeah, but then most of the girls aren't going to be wearing anything but dog collars, and...

Oh. Oh, right. I see what you did there.

So we went from Charlie's Angels to gothic sexy with..what is that, a spiderweb or is that a blank church window in the background.  The tone got darker, marking the beginning of Cherry's influence or..hoepfully the arrival of her much needed and hopefully hilarious and entertaining comeuppance.

It's the Fates - the string is a strand representing someone's lifespan.

Title: Re: SJI Cover Archive
Post by: Werdna on March 21, 2014, 11:28:46 am
Having those three as the Fates is really fascinating, especially in the order shown.  Mallory is the one to cut the string - i.e., to bring death.  That jives with what Cherry has said about her.

I have my own whackadoodle theory about what each of those three characters represents in terms of female archetypes, and seeing them depicted this way does nothing to dispel it.  It's a crazy theory that requires more evidence to present, though.

This is a great new cover; beautiful and sinister and wonderful.

Well, the retired cover is gorgeous.  The new one....um, well...it's different.  Mallory looks like Mallory.  Dani's sorta been kicked all over the map on the cover, so I'm pretty sure that's her first.  The redhead...Erin...really?  Erin has never in the history of this comic worn her hair that long, and I don't know any competing redheads...so, I'm confused.  This one looks to be an homage to the old masters painting Greek deities.  It's well done, but it's...hmmm.  Of note, this is our third...no fourth consecutive cover featuring only Dani, Erin, and Mallory.  It's interesting, particularly because I haven't yet seen the bond develop between these three that makes them stand out from their SJI sisters.  However, they do seem to be the most powerful and gifted members of the harem.

No, I am logged out.  This is something different; I click on the thumbnail and all I get is the image loading spinner.  If I try opening the link in another browser tab I get a page with "Welcome to nginx" and nothing else.

Covers of other comics load as expected if I click on them.

Looks like it's working now, so either Daphne fixed it or it magically fixed itself.  (FWIW I was seeing the odd failure to load on multiple devices so I don't think it was a local configuration problem.)

Anyhow... I like what this cover implies about upcoming plot threads.  Events with Imani, Hitomi and Caitlyn have hinted at somebody working to 'collect' the cheerleading squad, and the cover seems to confirm that.  It's hard to go wrong with a busty mind-controlled group of cheerleaders.
