Title: What were your favorite comics of 2015?
Post by: Daphne on January 01, 2016, 10:25:49 pm
It's that time of year again, time to vote for your favorite comics! All of the regular comics are listed above (bonuses will be their own poll). You can vote for up to five titles. We don't have a definition of "favorite": it can be the art, the writing, the general hotness, or whatever you want.

And comments below!

The Pool of Dr Viagari is so great in every way. I am hoping for more.

No Occurrence?

So hard to pick. I'll wait to vote till the oversight is corrected, but in the meantime:
Honorable Mentions:
12) Free Cable - A lot of variety to this, even though it's basically the same story each time. Like the slow fall. Plus boobs. ;)
11) The Pool of Dr. Viagari - straightforward enough, just a fun, simple story.
10) Celestinon - Love the artwork, both the old and the new style. I really like the subtle seductive control, the slow burn that leaves them mostly themselves in personality, but at the same time changed to suit the controller.
9) Fantasy World - again, I like the idea of the personality change that they don't realize is happening.
8) Lost Weekend - The ending of that, where her sexual side takes control of her normal self, very hot.
7) CFM Trading/The Changing Room - Similar themes, I like the controlled by an item aspect, the "clothes make the woman" so to speak. Lots of possibilities for that theme.
6) Chrysallis - a lot of variety, I like the aspect of bringing their fantasies to life. The last one was especially hot, I can't wait to see the results of that on her real life.
Now for the actual vote:
5) Occurrence - Like the techy aspect, and I really like the 4 different responses to the same thing, there's a lot of variety.
4) Roll Playing - Big D&D fan (if you are too, check out Critical Roll on the Geek and Sundry YouTube/Twitch channels. It's a bunch of voice actors playing D&D, a lot like an old time radio show.) And I really like the "fantasy turned reality" aspect. If only...
3) Free Trade Zone - #1 still has my favorite enslavement/transformation scene, and it's still hot (hoping for more scenes like #1 in the future).
2) Beyond Rubies - Always a hit. Just hoping it doesn't end with a Pollyanna ending. :P
1) Con'Fused - Combining nerd culture, transformations, and corrupting enslavement - three of my favorite things. TONS of potential in this one. I'd like to see a spin-off of this, something like The Changing Room, where a costumer sells costumes that control the wearer. Also, one following the Shadowcat cosplayer. :D

The Chrysalis - favourite overall
Travel Plans - favourite one-shot, mostly for the amazing art
By The Book - favourite writing, especially this year's issues
The Inheritance - best opening, also really good looking art

#1: Lost Weekend - I really liked both of this year's issues, but it automatically gets my top spot anyway, just because it ended (Shout out to Extreme Makeover, too, but that's too novel for me to want to count it here).

A great ending can really buoy up a story, and what I like about the entire MCC/DF brand is their commitment to story. Maybe think about ending Bearing Gifts or The Martian Harem?

Cast my votes; but here are honourable mentions;

Buttoned Up, The Inheritance, Travel Plans: I felt these were all solid stories with great art. If they had more than one chapter, I'd have likely voted them stronger

Cuckoo's Nest: I love this story, but it seems to have been on hiatus so long it dropped it down my ranking list

Free Trade Zone: I'm actually finding the story almost more interesting than the MC sex... not that I don't want to see more MC sex...

The Chrysalis: This has been solid so far, but has definitely fallen into a predictable pattern; gal shows up to apt, goes into the chamber, comes out as a different sex doll, sex ensues.  I'd really like to see more historical bits with the Chrysalis like the piratey one. I really enjoyed seeing the Chrysalis in a different context and with a different art style.

I decided to vote for NEW favorites. I defined new as a new series released this year that I definitely want to see continue. That in no way reduces my liking for the older classics though.

My votes went to Beyond Rubies, By The Book, Con'fused, Cuckoo's Nest, and Maid To Order, but I also love:

Saint James Infirmary: It just keeps going! It's still fun and sexy and adventurous and I love every new episode of this soap opera

Chrysalis: So many fucktoys, so many transformations! I love transformations.  Mmm, transformations!  :)

Buttoned Up: fun and sexy, and I loved trying to figure out each button :)

Occurrence: spaceships and brainwashing and hypnotic cocks! What's not to love?

So much great stories! Thanks for keeping up the great work!

I confess that this is hard to do. Many of the continuing titles updated only once or twice this year which makes it very hard to enjoy the story.

It may be impossible to have too MUCH of a good thing, but I think you may be dangerously close to too MANY of them. The quality of story telling suffers with time spent waiting. For example, Martian Harem was missing the whole year. Does that mean it is done, abandoned or on hiatus? No way to know.

But I have been enjoying the silliness of Con'fused and it did manage 3 updates.

Thanks for some great stories!

Enchanted Summer.

Love the slow seduction with hypnosis.

I agree about the predictability. There's so much potential for what could be done, and the last issues with the split personality was so clever and fit my tastes so well that it was almost enough to recommend it on its own, but the other issues have been a little cliché in terms of the end results - French maid, various dolls, etc. I'm hoping the last issue was the start of something new. Aliens, fairies, vampires, elves, demons, catgirl, punk, steampunk, Victorian, superhero, supervillain, ancient Egyptian, pirates, Renaissance, etc. Really go wild with it.

My list:

 Roll Playing
 The Chrysalis
 Con 'Fused
 Lost Weekend
 The Persuader

My honorable-mention list:

Saint James Infirmary -- too many threads to keep track of, but when it heats up, it's a blast. Becomes my favorite "periodically"
Waiting Room -- hot, but waiting to see how things progress
Bigger -- I am really enjoying this, though again, I want to see if it GOES anywhere from here
Queen of Angels -- love it. Just barely less than the others above.
The Hidden Knowledge -- but this has really slowed down and lost momentum since the original arc resolved. Waiting for a solid plot development.

Unrealized potential--waiting for the next update. All of these feel like great stories just waiting to break out.

 CFM Trading
 The Canadian Girlfriend
 Celestinon
 Checkered Past
 Enchanted Summer
 Free Trade Zone
 The Inheritance
 Sudo
 Unknown Pleasures
 Occurrence

Other notes:

Maid, to Order -- I LOVED the EMCSA story. The artwork just didn't set it off for me.
The Pleasure Garden -- similarly--I really liked the story, but the art just didn't convey the conversion to me in a way that I felt was compelling.
Rapid Inductions -- 3 of the 6 have been awesome... but the other 3 just didn't push my buttons in any way. Picking the right point in time for the narrative seems to be the problem, i.e. I really liked the VP of HR one, but the door-to-door salesman one didn't do a thing for me.

My votes:

Cuckoo's Nest - My #1 favorite of the long running serials. Great art, silly but engaging story, plenty of recurring heat. Wish there was more.

Fantasy World - Nice departure in terms of style and pacing from most other comics. Stands out in that way very well.

Free Trade Zone - What initially brought me to this story (the great first issue induction) has turned into a genuine enjoyment of the story. I, almost, look forward to the next story more than the sex...almost.

Roll Playing - IMO, a much better take on the blending of nerd culture with MC than Confused.

Showing Off - I'm a big fan of Sturk, so that was a huge plus, but this was a fun take on the circus story.

I still really, really like THK. Obviously its only problem is that it doesn't update enough D:

The way I counted it, there was only one comic with more issues than The Hidden Knowledge and that was Beyond Rubies. There were a number that had more pages in the 3 issues but all of those were poser work rather than drawn art comics.

Of course the big comic for the year is still Saint James Infirmary with a whopping 106 pages released this year along with a new cover.

What you hit on is the bigger problem of so many good comics and only limited publishing money and space. After all, there were 34 series or one shots released in 2015 and only 52 weeks in the year.

That's exactly it. I think I'd like less comics with more issues - not that most of the comics on this site aren't excellent, but I prefer depth to breadth. Of course there are logistical reasons why that's not being enacted, I'm sure. To be honest a lot of the one-shots kind of leave me dissatisfied for similar reasons- there isn't enough time to really get to the heat of the MC in 12 decompressed pages.

Given that only one of my five choices is currently in the top ten in this poll - and that would have been my fifth choice (and it's only at number 9), I must say I wouldn't want to see a narrower range of comics based around what's popular.

That is a good point - this is niche stuff, and I think this site does its best to appeal to people who like (female-subject) MC in general... and not all of us who are fans of that like the same things.

Yeah, to play off this, I'm really surprised by how the list is shaking out this year.  It used to pretty reliably be a race between THK and BR, but that's clearly not the case anymore.  THK has come down (and I agree with what was said before: it's gotten a little directionless and MC-light), and 'Con Fused has come up.  Also I'm flabbergasted that Roll Playing is doing so well.

Takeaways appear to be: people like bodmod stories a lot, and also geek culture riffs.  I like but am not in love with both of those (though I did vote for CF, so take that for what you will).  So I hope Daphne doesn't veer too far that direction, but wouldn't blame her if she did.

01 (01) Beyond Rubies
02 (--) Con'Fused
03 (06) Roll Playing
04 (02) The Chrysalis
05 (04) By The Book
06 (03) The Hidden Knowledge
07 (07) Free Cable
08 (09) Audiophilia
09 (16) The Persuader
10 (11) Bigger

And if we compare this to the number of issues for each this year we get this…

01 (01) 4 Issues -- Beyond Rubies (#8-#10)
02 (--)  3 Issues -- Con'Fused (#4-#6)
03 (06) 3 Issues -- Roll Playing (#4-#6)
04 (02) 3 Issues -- The Chrysalis (#10-#12)
05 (04) 3 Issues -- By The Book (#16-#18)
06 (03) 3 Issues -- The Hidden Knowledge (#14-#16)
07 (07) 2 Issues -- Free Cable (#7-#8)
08 (09) 3 Issues -- Audiophilia (#8-#10)
09 (16) 1 Issue  -- The Persuader (#4)
10 (11) 3 Issues -- Bigger (#9-#11)

As you can see, the only 4 Issue series for 2015 is at the top. All of the 3 Issue series for 2015 are in the top 10. And no one-shot or serials comics are in the 10 ten either. Yet I'd be hugely disappointed each week of my 2-3 issues of SJI were missing...

I think Con'fused and Roll Playing were helped this year because they are getting into the heart of the arc 1 story plot.

The Hidden Knowledge got hurt a little since it concluded the Arc 1 story line and is transitioning to Arc 2. (Similar to what happened in Chapter 4 of Rubies or after the Night of the Watch in Saint James Infirmary.

The Persuader is probably there since it was a pivotal Chapter in the arc 1 storyline with excellent art work.

Personally I voted for 5 out of the 6 new series stories since all 6 were good and I knew that my old time favorites would be at the top poll anyway.

The top 10 are also all very "in your face" with the MC.  The subtler comics -- Sudo, Enchanted Summer, even SJI -- aren't doing so well.  That doesn't mean that people don't like them, but it also implies that they don't love them.

Heh, Beyond Rubies has been drawn out since issue 2.  It was never originally intended to have an issue 3.  ;D

As for Con`Fused cosplay:

Barbara (the blond) is usually a DnD something or other. From a dragon rider (her own character cosplay)to a wench to a Gorean slave girl.
Lori (the redhead) went from a Disney princess to a Black Widow to Baywatch to Poison Ivy.
Kathleen (brunette) went from normal hot cloths to Gila from Our Man Flint to Bayonetta.

Kathleen (brunette) … normal hot cloths … Gila from Our Man Flint … Bayonetta ...
