I had thought that the first word was "My"

That is correct.

But I can't see a fit for the second word.

Well, I'll say that it is English, and there are no characters that are not the basic Latin alphabet in it.

Hmm. If we allow that the writer might be using antique penmanship, then the second word might be "regards," with a Seventeenth Century style final "s."

I independently (I swear!) got "My regards to your father".

Atlas' daughters-lots of good stories there.  Calypso's is tragic.

So, the Driver is Greek?  Does he have a mythological connection as well.  I can't imagine an ordinary Joe or Derek having stones like that.

OK, one mystery solved, several dozen more initiated.  Ain't that always the case with SJI.   Smiley

I've been going over the whole run of SJI and one motif that is pretty constant is that clocks and timing -more than the watch, I mean - do seem to recur frequently, though I wonder if that's just a practical visual way of situating the reader temporally for any given strip.

Godwilling, thanks for the bit about the Hyades - I had completely forgotten about them.

Well, we have a couple important timepieces floating around (the watch housing that The Driver now has) and the belltower.  The Kuplers started as watchmakers.  I don't know if the actual time that this incident occured is significant, though.  Refresh my memory, do we have the name of a delivery woman already?  The shipment to the grocery store was in a Princess Pink van, but I could have sworn we'd seen a gal driving a brownish delivery truck before this.
