You know, other than the website it's published at there is nothing to mark this as a mind-control story.  This could easily be a more standard pornographic comic where a lady moves into a rooming house with some unusually libidinous residents, gets turned on, and joins in.

Art was good.

Check out her eyes. That's what tipped me off she was slipping into a trance at times. It's subtle, but check out page 7 (panel 1st panel on right) and page 9 (again, 1st panel on right), the artist is defiantly trying to show the main character is going into a trance. The eye effects aren't constant while she's in a trance, but I believe they do the job as intended to alert the viewers about what is happening to Kim.

This was a cool "art house" comic. I would like to see a follow-up with a bit more detail.

Rent Control was the very first comic I saw on this site. I feel mildly embarrassed that it took me so long to actually saying something about it.

I was mighty surprised to see the artwork in this comic. It's good- just different from what I was expecting. At first glance I thought it was done in Manga style, and while the panels seem to have a Manga format, it's read left to right and the characters are drawn 'normally.' (American style? Non-manga, at least.)

I liked the art. It was good, and I definitely want to see more of it. It wasn't the best I've seen, but came as something of a relief once I looked at it again, because for a little bit I felt like every new comic I looked at was going to have 'the best art I've seen.' (Of course, that statement is still absolutely true, given the order I've read them in so far, though I'm not sure if Good People 1 or 2 is better in terms of art.) Regardless, I would welcome seeing further comics done in this style and by this artist.

Story-wise, this is a simple little one shot that conveys a very subtle, slightly sinister tale. The constant thumping made this seem like a twistedly adult version of Edger Allen Poe's "The Telltale Heart." I almost expected there to be an ending featuring someone's death. (Spoiler alert: there's not.)

Regardless, the relentless pounding certainly had its influence. I thought this was a very subtle form of MC. Honestly, it felt a little vanilla to me. The victim is driven with steadily climbing lust... and the ending certainly features an MC element. But it felt like there was something missing somehow.

I *did* like the final bit of dialogue. "You will" was a really great send-off.

Speaking of which, I like the artistic choice in the complete absence of speech bubbles, as well as the minimalist dialogue. The story was shown instead of told, and the only thing that really came across in terms of sound was the steady, rhythmic thumping. The perceived silence definitely added to (if not straight out 'made') the comic.

All in all, I look forward to more! Daphne seems to be stretching her legs a little bit with this one, taking a very subtle approach to tell her story. it certainly displays how talented of a writer she can be! That said, I hope the next comic done in this style is a little spicier.

And hey, if you're ever looking for something, I'm a BIG fan of females being ordered to orgasm against their will. Either verbally in person, over the phone, or remotely using a device.
